We all know that the "small stuff" is what makes or breaks a chromatography method. The trick is to keep the small stuff under control. DryLab models chromatography variables in seconds - and that power lets you evaluate a much wider range of experimental conditions than would ever be practical in the laboratory. With DryLab you can quickly determine the effects on your separation of pH, temperature, buffer concentration, and much, much more.

Take a look at just some of the features DryLab had to offer:

Temperature/gradient time mode.

We are in the process of adding new modes to DryLab, that allow you to optimize two parameters at a time. The first such mode is temperature vs. gradient mode. It requires you to make four initial runs at two different gradient times and two different temperatures. Look at the example files for the new mode by loading any of the files that start with 3D_. The easiest way to set up your runs is to switch to the right mode and click the clear button at the bottom of data entry. A dialog box will ask you for the two gradient times and temperatures.

You will notice that the resolution map and resolution table are changed for this mode. You can set the current temperature and gradient time by clicking on the value you want. If you want to change the colors of the resolution map click on the color key to get the color control panel. We have provided a number of color combinations to experiment with; they can be loaded with the Open button in the color control panel.

Use more runs to improve predictions:

For all modes (except tG/temp. mode) you can use up to 16 input runs in the data entry table. This means, that if you do additional experiments, you can add the results of those experiments to the data entry section in order to improve DryLab predictions. The number of runs, that are listed in the mode menu, are the minimum number of runs for that mode.

Plate numbers and tailing factors:

DryLab now allows you to enter plate numbers and asymmetry factors for each peak for each run. If your data system provides this information, DryLab will give better peak shape and peak width predictions, if these values are entered. If you only enter these values for one run, DryLab uses that value for all the runs. If you enter the experimentally determined values for each input run, the program will interpolate plate numbers and tailing factors between runs. You can turn the plate number and assymmetry factor columns on and off with the options menu in data entry.

Combine incomplete runs to build the DryLab model:

Starting with DryLab 2.0, you are able to enter incomplete runs and still get a good DryLab model. For example, say you have a sample with four peaks you are interested in. You do one experiment at 40%B and another at 60%B, but only two of the peaks are resolved at each of these conditions. You then do experiments at 50%B and 70%B, but at these conditions only the other two peaks are resolved. With DryLab 2.0 you can enter all four of those runs and get a good DryLab model. You would enter the retention times for the first two peaks at the %B that they were resolved, and the second two peaks at the other %B.

You can turn on and off individual values in data entry:

Use the right mouse button to turn on and off individual values in data entry. This is especially useful when used with the previous feature.

New look and feel:

Most parts of the program have been upgraded for this release. The program looks different, but operates in much the same way. Navigation is done primarily through the use of the tabs on the upper left window. If you have any trouble getting around in the program, please let us know, so that we can a) help b) make it easier for others.

Installation of the DryLab® 2000 Plus

Installation
1. If you have downloaded the "DryLab2000Plus_Install(3_5_0).exe" file (or similar name) from the internet than open it and continue with step 4

2. If you have got a DryLab® 2000 Plus CD-Rom, insert it into into an available disk drive.
3. From the "DLW 2000 Plus" folder open the "DryLab2000Plus_Install(3_5_0).exe" file (or similar name)
4. Follow the instructions on your computer screen for automated installation.
5. After the installation, a program group "DryLab 2000 Plus" will be installed. Start the evaluation program with a click on the icon "DryLab 2000 Plus" in this group.
6. Please answer the start message on the screen by clicking the button "Read Only". DryLab will be started as a read only module (evaluation program).

Short introduction
This evaluation program makes you aquainted with the advantages and the basic features of the method optimization and development software DryLab®. It runs as a read only module by using example data files. Within the evaluation program you can not save your own data! The example files are located in the ...\DryLab 2000 Plus\Examples directory. They are placed there by the DryLab® installation program. For demonstration purpose you can find several example data files for isocratic, gradient and gas chromatography modes with the file extension *.dlb. After starting DryLab® it will open to the program window titled DryLab® Laboratory with an example data set of. The Laboratory window is the main DryLab® window in which you use the program options to model your separation under different conditions.
To move to the Data Entry window from the Laboratory window, click on the "Data Entry" button. From the Data Entry window, click "Close" to move to the Laboratory window. The "OK"-button does not appear in the evaluation program. So you can not change the data in the Data Entry window.
